Controller design and implementation for the grid-side converter of an emulated wind turbine

master thesis, 2016.

Increasing presence of wind farms in electrical systems resulted in change of their passive role from exploitation beginnings to active electrical grid regulator, which is defined with power operator regulations requirement. In addition, wind turbine power converters offer great control possibilities in electrical distribution system stability by very fast adjustment of delivered power with regard to electrical grid demands and disturbances. Within the master thesis, a cascade control structure of wind turbine grid side power converter is designed with power converter current, grid current and DC-link voltage control loops. Control structure is verified in Matlab and PLECS, and finally validated experimentally on laboratory set-up consisted of Danfoss converters, LC filter, dSPACE controller and 5.2 kW permanent magnet generator.
