Automated greenhouses offer great opportunities for growing plants by regulating temperature, lighting, irrigation and nutrients. This paper deals with the regulation of lighting in an automated greenhouse. The influence of light on plant growth and development was analysed and an ideal spectrum was found that enables quality plant development. System components were selected and a model was set up. Using simulations in MATLAB / Simulink, a PI controller was found and implemented on a programmable logic controller.
