What we do at LARES – projects, research and alumni success

At LARES, students work with mentors to apply and develop methods of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI & ML) in various technical systems, including:

Student excellence and industry recognition

LARES students are also recognised through prestigious university and industry awards for outstanding project, thesis and research work.

  • Werner von Siemens Excellence Award, 2025: Lovrić, Petar
  • IEEE RTSI 2025 Best Paper Award (student), 2025: Ratkovčić, Mihael

From student research to conference papers and patents

At LARES, students work closely with their mentors to turn ideas and prototypes into recognised research results. Projects we identify as most promising are actively guided toward conference publications — and in some cases, even result in a patent. Below are selected examples of research outcomes that originated from student work or collaboration with students:

  • Ratkovčić, Mihael; Jakšić, Mihael; Lešić, Vinko. Prediction of Windows Openness in Smart Building by Supervised Machine Learning // Proceedings of the 2025 IEEE 9th Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry (RTSI 2025). Tunis, Tunisia.
  • Banjac, Anita; Prvonožec, Dorotea. Optimizing insulation thickness for energy and cost efficiency in residential buildings: A case study // Proceedings of the 2025 International Conference on Control, Decision and Information Technologies (CoDIT 2025). Split, Croatia.
