SmartCityLight – Intelligent and modular platform for management and monitoring of city lighting

Application of artificial intelligence, including predictive and optimal control for public lighting system control as part of the smart city infrastructure, with application to the pilot of the City of Sisak, open positions for two young researchers, one experienced researcher and one project administrator full-time (research project SmartCityLight with company LED Elektronica, envisioned start is 1 October 2020, employment duration somewhat less than 3 years, contact e-mail).

Interested candidates are invited to submit a cover letter, a detailed CV, and the contacts of up to three references by e-mail to Vinko Lesic (vinko.lesic@fer.hr).

The project aims at developing centralized and distributed model predictive control algorithm and electronic controllers with wireless communication for predictive and autonomous adjustment of lighting intensity based on various external factors in the city such as micro-location climate conditions, pedestrian and road traffic intensity, safety concerns and other. Together with it, inherent digitalisation of the city lighting enables integration of various city infrastructures and additional diagnostic possibilities. The algorithms will be experimentally verified on selected segments among 8000 city lamps as a pilot location of the City of Sisak, Croatia, with a warm start of already integrated system to a central database. The project encompasses lighting spreading modelling, application of neural networks on historical data of external factors and model predictive control in both centralized and distributed forms.

The project is carried out in close collaboration with industry partner LED-Electronica, the producer of 15.000 city LED lamps annually, corresponding controller and communication electronics, cloud-based software platform for monitoring and control, and various services – and with over 60 references of successful implementations.
